Funding
Discover funding opportunities for animal-free innovations with an upcoming new webapp!
This user-friendly tool helps researchers, entrepreneurs and public-private partnerships to quickly identify the right funding programs for their NAM research, validation or implementation. The app organizes programs by Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and provides all the relevant details you need to choose the right funding option to support your NAM project and accelerate the transition to animal-free solutions.
Please note, this webapp is still under construction and is expected to be available before the end of this year (2025).
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature/Transition Program for Animal-free Innovations (TPI) is developing a webapp to offer a comprehensive overview of available funding options for NAMs (New Approach Methodologies). The goal is to make funding for NAMs easily accessible, thereby promoting the use and development of animal-free methods and accelerating the transition to animal-free innovations. With this webapp, you can explore various funding instruments specifically aimed at supporting research, development, validation and implementation of NAMs. It is designed to help researchers, entrepreneurs, and public-private partnerships to easily find the right funding for their NAMs project(s).
The available funding opportunities are categorized based on the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) system. This system assesses the development of technologies, ranging from fundamental research (TRL 1-3), through technological development (TRL 4-6), to validation and commercial end products (TRL 7-9). This webapp will also display the specific research areas that the funding programs focus on, the amount of funding available, and other relevant details you need to know to select the funding program suitable for your project. In addition to funding programs specifically focused on animal-free innovations, the webapp also features more generic funding programs that can support animal-free projects, both on a national and European level.

For example, for projects in the TRL 1-6 phase, one of the key animal-free funding instruments is the ZonMw MKMD program. This program has a focus on funding new animal-free methods or to support the acceptance and implementation of existing animal-free methods. Another important funding possibility is Eurostars, a European funding program for innovative companies and institutions, that work together to develop new products and services. This program is particularly relevant for international projects in the TRL 6-8 phase. These and other funding opportunities contribute to the acceleration of animal-free innovations in science and industry.
Please ensure that you stay informed about the launch announcement of the webapp – keep an eye on this page to gain immediate access to the relevant funding opportunities for your NAM project once the webapp is live!
